Manage your passwords: KeePass Password Safe

If you’re like I used to be, you have a semi-permanent red slap spot on the side of your head from trying to remember the millions of usernames and passwords you have to deal with each day. You have one for your email, one for your MLS, one for your Realtor account, one for your affiliation, one for your Facebook and MySpace, one for your cat, and yet another for your toothbrush (I hope it doesn’t get to this point.)

The first solution most people decide upon is to use the same username and password for everything. All is fine and dandy (minus the huge security issue) until you encounter a service that insists on you choosing a secure password (one number, one capital, at least 7 characters and must rhyme with orange.) You succeed in transforming your normal password, ‘fuzzybunny’ into ‘FuZZy8unny’ only to forget it each time you log into that service.

To complicate matters further most MLS systems require you to change your password every quarter or sooner.

The solution to this problem is the humble program KeePass (http://keepass.info/). This allows you to lock all your username, passwords, and websites into a “vault” that is opened by one master password. KeePass can also create randomly generated passwords that are very secure giving your brain some time off.

The developers of KeePass offer this program for free and it can be downloaded from their website at http://keepass.info/. If you use the program, and like it, consider donating a couple bucks to their cause as this is why they can offer it for free in the first place.

This program is sure to simply your online life and make it all the more secure.
